Founder & Director, Tour of Duty Institute & Tour of Duty Experience™

Michael E. Broady is a decorated combat Veteran, national‑level facilitator, and the creator of the Tour of Duty Experience™. With more than five decades of combined military and federal service, he has dedicated his life to helping Americans reconnect to the meaning of service, identity, and purpose.

A Life of Service & Military Leadership

Michael served 34 years on active duty in the United States Army, rising to the rank of  Command Sergeant Major. His career includes assignments in the 75th Ranger Regiment, Special Forces, and other elite Special Operations units, where he led, trained, and developed Soldiers across the full spectrum of military operations. His operational & combat deployments span multiple regions across Central & South America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East, reflecting extensive experience in diverse international environments.

Throughout his career, Michael became known for his ability to build cohesive teams, develop leaders, and create environments where people feel valued, connected, and committed to a shared mission.

Federal Civilian Leadership — National Impact

Following his military retirement, Michael continued his service for another 19 years as a federal civilian, culminating in two national‑level leadership roles:

  • Senior Project Manager for all training and workforce development at the President’s White House Call Center for Veterans, where he shaped the training of the nation’s frontline representatives serving millions of Veterans and families.
  • GS‑14 Senior Analyst in the Veterans Experience Office (VEO) in Washington, DC, where he contributed to national initiatives designed to improve trust, access, and outcomes for Veterans across the country.

Creator of the of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Tour of Duty Experience™

Michael is the architect of the award winning Tour of Duty Experience™, a modern, emotionally resonant workshop that blends:

  • Military culture
  • Civilian service to the nation
  • Whole Health principles
  • Storytelling, music, humor, and ceremony

His facilitation style is nationally recognized for its ability to build psychological safety, strengthen identity, and reconnect people to the deeper meaning of their work.

Whole Health & Human Connection

    As a certified Whole Health coach, Michael brings the principles of Whole Health, identity, purpose, connection, and resilience, into his work, helping participants rediscover what sustains them. His approach honors the 1% who served in uniform and the 99% who serve the nation each day through their work, their families, and their communities.s.

    Purpose & Legacy

    At the heart of Michael’s work is a simple belief:

    “America works because people serve,  and that service should never be invisible. Our duty is to recognize it, tie it to the values represented in the flag, and celebrate it as one of our nation’s greatest treasures.”

    Through the Tour of Duty Institute, he is building a national movement that restores pride, unity, and purpose in organizations across the country.
